It is a deep-rooted tradition for us to tour the world and visit at least one conference.
There is nothing better than networking, right? 😉

Last year, one of our representatives, Gabriela from Vendor Management, even visited Meet Central Europe in Budapest on behalf of our company. In addition, Klára, our Sales Manager, proudly represented us and our Sales Department at the ELIA Conference in Vienna (photo story here).

Let us take a look at what is held this year and which interesting events we can enjoy together within the field of translation

At the end of March, specifically 24-27, Gala 2019 will be held in Munich. What caught our eye was that almost all of the lectures are, in one way or another, related to AI (artificial intelligence), whether it is in sales or project processes.

Only a couple of days later, on 29 March 2019, Warsaw is hosting the TLC Conference which, according to its preliminary programme, promises traditional lectures, as well as a yoga class for a better start to a new day or competition for translators!

In April, the 14th annual EUATC Conference in Tallinn, Estonia, will focus on those seeking new business approaches, as well as the best strategies and opportunities to penetrate new markets.

The month of May will abound with conferences. See for yourself. As early as 1 May 2019, the ALC Annual Conference will start in Washington, USA, and last for 4 days. Meanwhile, on 2 May 2019, the BP Translation Conference in Bologna, Italy, will also take place. It seems that participants from all around the world are headed to this event since there were 224 participants, from 35 countries, already registered by 12 February 2019. A little further southeast, the May conference marathon continues with the ELIA Conference, entitled ND Focus – Elia’s Networking Days for Executives between 9 and 10 May in Dubrovnik. As its name suggests, this event will focus primarily on top management.

The next two conferences will be held in the UK; the first of the two, ITI Conference, from 10-11 May in Sheffield. It is one of the largest events in the UK and it is held biannually. In 2017, more than 350 translators from 20 different countries partook in this event.
The second location is London, where the SlatorCon, Conference, focused more on technologies and localisation, will be held on 16 May 2019. The last May event will be tcworld China in Shanghai, aimed primarily at communication technologies.

Sunny Portugal will host the LocWorld40 Conference on 11 June 2019. This year’s theme is “Go Global, Be Global”. It is noteworthy that Memsource, the translation software we use daily for processing our projects, is the after-drink host. The second event occurring annually in June is LT Innovate: 8th Language Technology Industry Summit, which will be held in Belgium on 24-26 June 2019. It welcomes everyone who is interested in and likes to discover and keep up with new language technologies.

From the looks of it, July is the month of holidays and rest, as the next major event, the Machine Translation Summit, is held in August 19-23 in Dublin. As you can already detect from its name, the stage will belong to specialists and developers using MT (Machine Translation). There will definitely be room for discussion and questions, which will certainly be abundant. Translation Forum Russia will be held in August; an event held every year since 2009. The tenth year will be celebrated in St. Petersburg from 23 to 25 August.

In September, you can look forward to the ATC Language Industry Summit 2019, which will take place in Greenwich, London. One of the biggest attractions is the gala dinner on deck the iconic Cutty Sark.

October will commence with the ELIA ND Hague Conference. It is this event we have noted down in our calendars for 3-4 October 2019. We should also mention the Meet Central Europe Conference, which we definitely plan to visit here in Prague and, which was mentioned in our recently published article. Save the date! We will look forward to seeing you on 10-11 October 2019. 😊

October will conclude with the 60th annual giant ATA Annual Conference, organised by the American Translators Association in Palm Springs that will host over 1,500 participants from more than 60 countries.

November will follow up with another LocWorld41 event. The topic is identical to the previous event held in June, i.e. “Go Global, Be Global”. This two-day conference starts on 6 November 2019 in Silicon Valley, California.

Another important event of this month is the tcworld Conference 2019, taking place in Stuttgart from 12 to 14 November 2019. In the same month, you can visit the free Language Show, a three-day event, taking place in Olympia, London, starting on 15 November 2019. It is intended for the general public, ranging from language teachers, agencies and technology providers to language enthusiasts; everybody will find inspiration, advice and entertainment.

The last event to be mentioned is the BDU Conference. This year’s topic will be “TRANSLATING AND INTERPRETING 4.0. New ways in the digital age”. You can attend it in Bonn, Germany, from 22 to 24 November.

This is the last event of 2019 – and in December, all translators can take a vacation, but only as far as the conferences are concerned, the work does not stop even during the Advent.

If you know of any interesting events you wish to attend, but are missing from this list, let us know in the comments. We will be happy to receive any tips… but even happier if we can meet you in person. 😊
